Jay Jackson joined in March of 1995 at a donor drive that someone sponsored in the building where he worked in Tulsa Oklahoma.  He gave the few tubes of blood that was required and really didn't think much more about it.

In March of 2000, five years later, he received a call saying he matched with a little four-years-old boy with leukemia.  He had since moved to Kansas City and was told that his procedure could take place here.  Although he was extremely busy with work at the time, he did not hesitate to say that he was willing to do anything to try to save this little boy's life.  Jay was asked to come into the clinic office for an information session with a nurse, where he would be thoroughly informed of the bone marrow donation process.  At the end of the information session, the nurse scheduled Jay to come back the following week for a physical exam.  That started the ball rolling.

Kristi, a nurse with Heart of America, performed the initial physical exam and helped Jay through the donation process over the next month.  She also assisted the physicians in the operating room during the procedure.  Jay came through with flying colors and was out celebrating with his friends that very evening.  When Kristi called Jay the following day to ask him some health questions and see how he was feeling, Jay had a question for her as well: "Will you go out with me"? Kristi said yes.  That started a year and a half long relationship that resulted in their marriage on 11/17/2001.

To this day the little boy that received Jay's bone marrow continues to do exceptionally well.  He is seven years old now and has no signs of the disease.  Jay and Kristi flew to the East coast where they met the boy for the first time last fall and they continue to enjoy a close relationship.  Not only did Jay donate bone marrow to save a little boy's life, but he also found his future wife, Kristi.
