Our Department has three components:

• The Academic Department
• The Clendening History of Medicine Library
• The Archives of the KU Medical Center

Our Mission and Goals:

• We teach students, practitioners and educators in medicine how historical and social factors and cultural values influence health care practices.
  
• We strive to advance scholarly work in history and philosophy of medicine that merits peer recognition nationally.
  
• We intend to be wise stewards of the collections of the Library and Archives and promote their use and dissemination.
