Department of Radiation Oncology

Conferences and Teaching Program

Details are noted below but, basically, a New Patient & Planning Conference is held for one hour Tuesday through Friday, a Resident Oncology Teaching Conference once a week consisting of didactic lectures (both departmental and outside faculty), discussions, journal clubs, a Multi-disciplinary Tumor Conference once a week and a site-specific tumor conference once a week. Once a year, a nationally-known oncologist is invited as part of the Resident Oncology Teaching Conference.

Basic radiological science for Radiation Oncology residents is composed of didactic courses in radiation physics, radiation protection and radiation biology. Comprehensive courses in all fields are given every year. In addition, each resident is expected to obtain a working knowledge of treatment planning through rotations and weekly work sessions designed to familiarize them with all facets of computer-assisted treatment planning.

Participation in both basic and clinical cancer research is encouraged in all residents but particularly those with investigative abilities and interests.
