Details are noted below but, basically, a New
Patient & Planning Conference is held for one hour Tuesday through
Friday, a Resident Oncology Teaching Conference once a week consisting
of didactic lectures (both departmental and outside faculty),
discussions, journal clubs, a Multi-disciplinary Tumor Conference once a
week and a site-specific tumor conference once a week. Once a year, a
nationally-known oncologist is invited as part of the Resident Oncology
Teaching Conference.
Basic radiological science for Radiation Oncology residents is
composed of didactic courses in radiation physics, radiation protection
and radiation biology. Comprehensive courses in all fields are given
every year. In addition, each resident is expected to obtain a working
knowledge of treatment planning through rotations and weekly work
sessions designed to familiarize them with all facets of
computer-assisted treatment planning.
Participation in both basic and clinical cancer research is
encouraged in all residents but particularly those with investigative
abilities and interests.
