Each resident will take call one week at a time on a rotating basis
with his/her fellow residents. The schedule for the four residents
in the training program will be made up by the chief resident by the
25th of the preceding month. Responsibilities while on call include:
- Taking responsibility for all patient calls after business hours
and on weekends.
- Giving emergency consultations after business hours and on weekends
with the on-call faculty member.
- Initiating emergency treatments after business hours and on weekends
with the on-call faculty member.
- During the week the resident is on call, he/she will be present
in the Department during the entire treatment day.
- The on-call resident should make himself/herself available during
the treatment day for problems related to patient treatment, especially
if the primary faculty physician is not available.
- In order that the on-call resident may be able to respond quickly,
he/she shall wear a pager during the day, after business hours and
on weekends.
- The hospital page operator (8-5155) should be notified of any change
in the call schedule. Unless the change must be made outside of office
hours, Gloria Morris (8-3612) should be notified so that she can
notify the Radiation Oncology nurses and the hospital page operator.
- For loading and unloading implants before or after hours, or if
a staff physician does not have an assigned resident. To make rounds
on implant patients on weekends and holidays, if a staff physician
does not have a resident.
