Clerkship Description

Asher Pharmacy is an independent community pharmacy that serves the local area of Paola and Miami County and has services to 5 long-term care facilities.  We are a full service pharmacy.

• Input prescriptions into computer, learning the basics of speed script computer program.
• Checking techs work, filling prescriptions, counseling patients on prescriptions and OTC medications.
• Fill nursing home medications and learn long-term care regulations and requirements.
• Visit local nursing homes with consulting pharmacist to help and be involved in monthly consulting.
• Some compounding of creams and suppositories.
• Learn all aspects of independent retail pharmacy management, i.e., buying, inventory control, cash-flow, and third party contracts.

Specific Site Requirements/Information

• A project and/or topic presentation depending on the students interest.  The topic presentation may be involved with a nursing home in-service or informational meeting.  The project may involve but is not limited to future cognitive services and disease state management programs, or other areas of health care.
• A weekly write-up of interests, recommendations, or concerns the student may have about the rotation site.

Directions to Site

Take I-35 South to HWY 169, take Paola exit and head south until you reach the Paola exit and turn west.  We are located in Price Chopper about a half mile from the highway.  Paola is 20 minutes south of Olathe and 45 minutes southeast of Lawrence.
