Clerkship Description

B&K Prescription Shop is an independently owned pharmacy in Salina, Kansas that was established in 1953.  B&K offers a wide variety of services and carries a full line of durable medical equipment.  Students will participate in the following activities:

  • Process prescriptions
  • Fill prescriptions
  • Fill unit dose systems
  • Counsel patients on new and refill prescriptions
  • Counsel patients and make recommendations on OTC medications and herbal products
  • Compound: capsules, creams, gels, suppositories, nasal irrigations, veterinary "chewies"
  • Drug information requests as they arise
  • Medication and disease state discussions related to community practice

Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the other products and services that B&K offers.  These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Cholesterol, Osteoporosis and Blood Pressure Screenings
  • Respiratory Therapy in relation to home and portable oxygen equipment, and CPAP
  • Durable medical equipment (wheelchairs, lift chairs, canes, walkers, crutches, etc.)
  • Diabetic shoe fittings along with monitor training
  • Laryngectomy supplies
  • Mastectomy supplies
  • Ostomy supplies
  • Wound care supplies

 

Specific Site Requirements/Information

Store hours are 9:00 am to 8:30 pm Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, and 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday.

Rotations will be 5 days a week and approximately 8 hours a day.  The dress code is business casual.  White lab coat is preferred.

Directions to Site

From Lawrence take I-70 West to Topeka.  Continue on I-70 West from Topeka to the Ohio Street exit in Salina.  Turn left at the stop sign.  Take Ohio Street South to Iron Street.  Turn right at the stop light onto Iron Street.  Continue on Iron Street for several blocks.  B&K is on the right hand side of the street.  Please park in the parking lot across the street (in front of Dillons) to leave parking in front of the store for patients.
