PHPR 672 Managed Care Clerkship
Clerkship Description This is a specialty pharmacy involved with a very selective group of disease states and drugs used in their treatment. The student will learn about multiple myeloma, HIV, Hep C, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, growth hormone, cystic fibrosis, fertility, hemophilia and some chemotherapy. The pharmacy provides clinical support for the patients by doing follow-up phone interviews. Caremark is also actively monitoring adverse drug reactions in these patients. The student will also be asked to provide drug information to the patients as well as caretakers and physicians. There is minimal dispensing of product at this site but the student will also learn about the infusion sets used for the home administration of the drugs. Projects will be assigned to the student as they present themselves in the daily operations and could include but not be limited to presentations on new disease states or agents for treatment, patient education charts or pharmacist drug charts for protocols. There is also the possibility of being involved with Quality Assurance issues of the business.
Specific Site Requirements The normal business hours are 9 am to 5 pm but they can be flexible with the students schedule. Please contact the preceptors by email for sending your resume and other information prior to starting the rotation.
Directions to Site From Lawrence or Kansas City, take K-10 to Renner Road. Exit and go south to just pass College Blvd and site is located in an industrial building complex on the west side of Renner Road. When entering the building, you will need to pick up the phone in the lobby and be allowed entrance.
