Clerkship Description
Experience pharmaceutical care in a busy 246 bed Level-2 Trauma Center with a Level-3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  Additional clinical focus in antibiotic monitoring and streamlining service.

Goal

  • Understand and perform the following duties:

           a)    Order entry/dispensing

           b)    Cart-fill/use of automated machines

           c)    Unit-dose packaging

           d)    IV admixture, including use of sterile technique and the

                    preparation of IV's, parenteral nutrition and

                    chemotherapy.

            e)    Compounding

  • Actively participate and effectively communicate (both verbally and written) with members of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Effectively present a case/topic presentation at the end of the rotation.

  • Understand inventory process, expiration dating, and medication formulary.

  • Provide drug information, recommendations, and consultations.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds including trauma, NICU, and internal medicine.

  • Follow antibiotic streamlining patients daily.
