Clerkship Description

F&M Drug is an independent community pharmacy in a town of about 2600 people.  The county is home to one hospital, 2 long term care facilities, 2 assisted living complexes, 1 home for mentally/physically handicapped, 1 home for troubled boys, and 3 home health care groups.  A pharmacy has been in this building since the late 1800s.  The previous owners owned this pharmacy for 50 years.  Mrs. Kennedy recently purchased this pharmacy 4 years ago.  The students will:

  •     Input prescriptions in the computer and learn the basic Speed Script computer program

  •     Fill prescriptions and counsel patients on prescription and OTC medications

  •     Fill unit-dose cards for the long-term care and assisted living facilities

  •     Check techs work

  •     Some compounding of creams and capsules

  •     Learn aspects of retail pharmacy i.e., buying, inventory control, 3rd party billing, etc.

Specific Site Requirements

  •     Dress is business casual--name tag is required but lab coat is optional

  •     Store hours are M-F 9-6 and S 9-1, closed Sundays and holidays

Directions

Take I-70 west to Highway 14 exit.  Go south on Highway 14 to Ellsworth.  Highway 14 goes through the district of Ellsworth.  F&M Drug is on the east side of the street next to the bank.
