PHPR 696 Community Retail
Goals 1. Work cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary health care team. 2. Appreciate medical economics as part of providing patient care. 3. Provide drug and medical information to both patients and health care providers. 4. Monitor adverse reactions and side effects. 5. Assess, monitor and improve medication compliance. 6. Understand how pharmacy services are delivered, designed and marketed. 7. Experience compounding and develop related critical thinking skills. 8. Understand pharmacy business and how it pertains to purchasing, pricing, third party contracts, and PBMs. 9. Understand pharmacy's role in consulting health care facilities. 10. Become familiar with medication distribution system, rules and regulations governing long term care facilities, IV therapy and controlled substances. 11. Provide patient counseling. 12. Provide durable medical equipment. 13. Understand financial responsibilities.
Specific Site Requirements and Information
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 6:00 pm. The schedule will be set on the first day of the rotation. Some activities may be scheduled outside of normal business hours with advance notice. In this event, you will be given a corresponding time off during regular hours.
Dress: Business casual, no lab coat, bring name tag.
Activities vary and may include: Patient counseling and consultations, compounding, drug information research, nursing home pharmacy and consulting, prescription processing, bone density screenings, blood pressure checks, diabetic shoes, marketing to patients and prescribers, journal club articles, staff education, contacting your legislator(s), patient care presentation.
