PHPR 653 Home Healthcare Advanced Clerkship
Clerkship Description QualiCare, Inc is a closed door pharmacy that limits practice to LTCF (long term care facility) patients, hospice patients and HIV/AIDS patients. Student is exposed to several unit-dose packaging systems and clinical chart reviews as well as other pharmacy functions in the nursing facilities. The student will spend most days in a nursing facility. Student will be responsible for developing an educational program for nursing home staff or family members of residents (topic to be determined). Student will generally work 0900-1700 Monday through Friday. Student should familiarize him/herself with medications and disease states common in the elderly and the Beer's list. Additionally, any information in regards to guidelines for long-term care facilities if available. Information will also be available at the pharmacy on the first day.
QualiCare Compounding Clerkship AC compounding is a compounding only pharmacy. Student is exposed to sterile compounding and non-sterile compounding. Dosage forms include, but are not limited to, intravenous solutions, subcutaneous solutions, inhalation solutions, capsules, creams, suspensions, solutions, suppositories, animal treats. Student may be exposed to marketing and other business development including professional education. Student will generally work 0900-1700 Monday through Friday. Student should familiarize him/herself with sterile mixing technique, review compounding procedures for suppositories and capsules at a minimum, and pharmacy calculations for compounding.
