Clerkship Description
The primary care setting at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center provides the
student opportunities to interact with many different disciplines. The student is
assigned to a specific medical treatment team that follows their patients whether they are
outpatients or inpatients. This team, consisting of physicians, pharmacists, nurses,
dieticians, social workers and urgent care providers will share with the student their
role in providing patient care.
Opportunities for the student include:
- Kinetic workups
- Long-term care chart reviews
- Discharge counseling
- Grand rounds
- Brown bag outreach clinics held off campus
- Many other options for the motivated individual
The pharmacy clinic will allow the student opportunities to speak with patients
immediately following their physician appointment. The patients' chart and lab
values are available for review at this time. This setting allows the
physician/pharmacist/student to be available to each other while medications are being
selected should questions arise.
