PHPR 688 Long Term Care
Course Description
Goals
- Work cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.
- Provide drug and medical information to both patients and health care
providers.
- Monitor adverse reactions and side effects.
- Assess, monitor and improve medication compliance.
- Understand pharmacy's role in consulting health care facilities.
- Become familiar with medication distribution system, rules and regulations
governing long term care facilities, IV therapy and controlled substances.
- Provide patient counseling/consulting.
- Provide durable medical equipment exposure.
- Understand financial responsibilities and appreciate medical economics as
part of providing patient care.
- Expectations of survey process and Quality indicators.
- Suggestions to physicians and nurses; written and oral communications.
- Emergency supplies and on-call services.
- Medical records IRXN with pharmacy.
- Be able to use computer for processing prescriptions.
- Understand a pharmacists relationship with patients and other healthcare
professionals.
