Course Description

 

Goals
  • Work cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Provide drug and medical information to both patients and health care providers.
  • Monitor adverse reactions and side effects.
  • Assess, monitor and improve medication compliance.
  • Understand pharmacy's role in consulting health care facilities.
  • Become familiar with medication distribution system, rules and regulations governing long term care facilities, IV therapy and controlled substances.
  • Provide patient counseling/consulting.
  • Provide durable medical equipment exposure.
  • Understand financial responsibilities and appreciate medical economics as part of providing patient care.
  • Expectations of survey process and Quality indicators.
  • Suggestions to physicians and nurses; written and oral communications.
  • Emergency supplies and on-call services.
  • Medical records IRXN with pharmacy.
  • Be able to use computer for processing prescriptions.
  • Understand a pharmacists relationship with patients and other healthcare professionals.
